Cabaret R.I.P.
A Cabaret Show written by Nuno Sabroso
Cabaret R.I.P took place in Little Venice (London) and was sold out. The show told the story of an artist who tried everything to succeed, from using Pastel de Nata (a typical Portuguese pastry) as a medicine to cure all his insecurities, to choosing to dance with an inflatable doll. Needless to say, his attempts fail every time and the protagonist, destroyed by the paradox of perfection, finally leaves everything to move to Copacabana.
The short excerpt makes visible the habits of teachers in the DanceSport world, such as placing dancers in the correct positions by moving their bodies as if they were actually a doll. It also criticises the association between masculinity and leading, suggesting that dolls are the only possible perfect partners because they lack sentience and will 'follow' whatever the leader leads.
