The Drink of Death
Live performance at the Hilton Charity Ball - London UK
“The drink of death” is a show performed by Giulia Settomini with Nuno Sabroso at the Hilton Charity Ball in December 2019. The opening scene is ambiguous, with Nuno lying on a table covered in a black fabric with a suspicious bulge at the level of the hips. When Giulia arrives, looking as if she is performing some sort of magic trick, and uncovers Nuno, it is revealed the protuberance was a bottle of magic potion, that Giulia gives Nuno to drink. The performance continues with Giulia directing Nuno’s movements as if he were under a spell. Specifically, she moves him, spins him around and even makes him spin on the floor and come back up, a figure that is largely exploited with opposite roles. The steps used are those of dances such as Tango, Paso Doble, Rumba and Cha Cha but they are all used according to the music and style, and a new meaning is expressed through the movement: the moves are not danced for their own sake, with beautiful technique and aesthetics, rather, they are a means to tell a story. In the end, Nuno manages to put Giulia down on the table, gives her some of the potion and covers her up, to be finally set free.
